Do you dream of a quiet holiday with no one to disturb you during your getaway? Well so do the A-listers! Far from the flashes of photographers and the shine of the spotlight, many are the stars who have chosen the island for its tranquility.
Île of Ré is famous for being the island of celebrities who want a quiet holiday, far from the hustle and bustle of Saint-Tropez or Cannes. The inhabitants and merchants are known for their discretion, which certainly appeals to those who are used to the screaming fans and paparazzi photos.
Do you want to follow in their footsteps or are you just curious? Discover these stars who spend their holidays on the island of Ré!
The famous actor from The Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings appreciates the island, where he meets his family, including one of his pianist cousins. Part of his family is originally from France and still lives there, which Orlando Bloom seems to appreciate since he often travels to the region.
In addition, his fiancée Katy Perry seems to like the region very much as well, since she has been there several times since the beginning of their relationship.
The couple seems to appreciate the tranquility and calm of the island, the bike rides and the beaches that make the authenticity of Ré.
Johnny Hallyday, a long-time local
The singing legend (renown for being the one who brought Rock and Roll to Franch) was a regular on the island: he had owned a house there since the late 1960s, in Ars-en-Ré, in a former shoemaker's workshop. He liked to go there after a stopover in La Rochelle with his ex-girlfriend Sylvie Vartan and meet with friends, such as Chantal Goya, who still regularly spends her holidays there.
Lionel Jospin and his wife
The former Prime Minister also chose Ré as his holiday destination with his wife. The couple bought a house in Ars-en-Ré in 2001, and still enjoy their holidays in their cottage. The couple takes advantage of the island to escape the Parisian greyness to an authentic house, which has nothing luxurious or ostentatious about it.
On the beach, you can also admire (from a distance) Patrick Bruel, Chantal Goya, Julien Clerc, Thierry Lhermitte, Fabrice Luchini, or Nathalie Baye. These stars almost all have houses on the island where they enjoy the charm of La Rochelle during their holidays and enjoy the proximity of Ré for a day trip.
The island is also the setting for many films: recently "My family already loves you" tells the story of family holidays that don't go exactly as planned.
Thus, if the island is nicknamed "the Saint-Tropez of the Atlantic", it is more because of the large number of stars who live there per square meter, rather than for the jet-set and festive side of the island. This one is rather known to be a haven of peace and tranquillity for the stars and offers a different setting from the French Riviera.
